The Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was one where NASCAR fans had high expectations. However, as soon as the checkered flag fell, many fans took to their social media accounts to express their disappointment as the race barely saw any exciting overtakes under green flag conditions.
The race at the historic Indianapolis struggled to live up to the hype of a crown jewel race. Despite several on-track incidents during the race on Sunday, July 26, such as Noah Gragson and Connor Zilisch's tussle or Joey Logano’s push to Corey Heim for the race win, many fans believe the 2.5-mile oval failed to deliver the racing product they were looking ahead to.
The criticism stems from one core issue: the drivers couldn't overtake enough during green-flag racing. A lot of the passes just happened on pit road.

The race, which has been considered a crown jewel for years, also received a similar complaint from NASCAR fans last year. This issue was addressed on the podcast 'The Teardown' by Jordan Bianchi and Jeff Gluck. They said,
"I was just gobsmacked by some of the people on X just going, ‘Oh my gosh, they shouldn’t race here. Oh, take this somewhere else.’ I’m like, how new of fans are you that you don’t know this is what the Brickyard is?" Gluck asked.
"That’s crazy. The trade-off of racing here has always been this. This is the most prestigious oval on the planet. Period. This place is magical. This place is dripping with legacy and lore and just all the history. So that’s why you come here."
Fast forward to this year's race, the complaints remain the same.
NASCAR fans weigh in on the racing product at Indianapolis
Under the comment posted by Chip Wonderful via X, many fans flooded the comment section with their opinion of the race at the Brickyard.
Echoing the frustration shared by many, one fan commented,
"Horrible racing, no one can pass, no action at all. Cancel this place and go somewhere they can race instead of driving around calculating fuel mileage."
Another fan also criticised the broadcasting booth as they expressed their disappointment. They wrote,
"Listening to the booth, you would think you were watching an exciting race. Talking about the history of the track doesn’t make the racing better."
A fan pointed fingers at the way the Next Gen package is set up, saying it has affected the racing product. They wrote,
"What a boring race. It was follow the leader. This package and t*** of car has ruined Indy. Just go back to the road course. You see passing and action. Today racing horrible."
Along similar lines, another fan commented that the Brickyard felt like short tracks. They wrote,
"It's been the worst one yet. I'll say it over and over these tracks where they have to shift from 4th to 5th .. that k**** it. Just like the short tracks."
