Carson Hocevar is drawing comparisons to Dale Earnhardt, and he is not changing for anyone. The Spire Motorsports driver is choosing personal authenticity over corporate demands as his NASCAR star rises.
“It doesn’t matter how much money available is there like because I would breaking the heart of the six-year-old kid that fell in love with NASCAR,” Hocevar told Kevin Harvick.
“There was times where it’s like, ‘Hey, you’re Cup driver now this how you act,’ or ‘This how you post online,’ or ‘This is what you do,’ or “You gotta dress this way.” I’m like, then I’ll just quit."
Instead of embracing the corporate side of the sport, Hocevar believes in authenticity. Given his nature, he is very unlikely to bend to those kinds of demands that the sport expects from drivers of his stature.
And that rawness is also one of the traits that's similar to Earnhardt Sr., whom he often gets compared to. Like him, Hocevar too has an aggressive style and an unapologetic way of racing.
In fact, an entire set of fans loves him because he embraces this very difference in him that he has compared to other drivers. At just 23, his on-track driving, his interviews, and his off-track persona have made him one of the sport's most talked-about personalities.
Earlier, he used to be criticized for those very things, but today, fans love him for it, as it reminds them of that era where drivers were more individual and showed more emotion.
Interestingly, his rising popularity was something Dale Earnhardt Jr also addressed.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. approves the comparison
When fans and experts compared Carson Hocevar with Dale Earnhardt earlier this season, Dale Earnhardt Jr. approved it and praised the young driver.
"There will always be stars that come and go, and Hocevar is in a position to really take advantage of this moment,” Dale Jr. said about Hocevar.
“He’s the kind of guy who’s ready to do it. He’s happy to have fun on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and show that to the world. We should embrace that.”
Besides this, the former driver also compared Carson Hocevar with Chase Elliott and stated that Hocevar can become the most popular NASCAR driver one day.
