Carson Hocevar’s Double attempt may be closer than you think. The driver has never denied it and has recently received a green light from Roger Penske. Now, only one final go-ahead remains.

Hocevar’s team Spire Motorsports is owned by TWG Motorsports, who also owns the IndyCar team Andretti Global. This year, Colon Herta was no longer an IndyCar driver for Andretti. Does that leave an entry spot for Hocevar?

Hocevar says he and TWG Motorsports CEO Dan Towriss have 'been just joking' about doing the Indy 500, as reported by IndyStar.

When asked about his intentions to run in the Indy 500 next year, Hocevar said, “I think everybody knows I want to do it at some point. So I got smart people that would decide that for me, but I wouldn't say no.”

At the Brickyard 400 race, NASCAR reporter Jordan Bianchi reported that Penske invited Hocevar to compete in the Indy 500. The report by IndyStar also stated that Hocevar visited Andretti Global’s new shop last week and spoke to Penske about doing the Indy 500 at Sunday’s driver meeting.

Back in February, TWG Motorsports CEO Dan Towriss was asked if Andretti could host a fourth entry next year, and if Hocevar could be the one to drive it.

'At 240 miles an hour? I don't know about that,’” Towriss had said. But he never denied it. For now, all Hocevar needs is this one green light from his billionaire-backed team's leadership to turn his Indy 500 dream into reality.

But even if Hocevar gets the seat, another interesting question is how he’d fit in it.

Hocevar too tall for IndyCar?

At 6’4”, Carson Hocevar would be the tallest driver to sit in the car. He would share the record with Justin Wilson, who has the same height.

A height like that wouldn’t make it any easier task for him. Still, Hocevar is positive about it, as he made a lighthearted comment about the same.

“I'm trying to cut myself about halfway from my legs to get a few inches off to help,” he said in the same IndyStar post.

Luckily, IndyCar recently unveiled its IR28 chassis, which will make its debut in 2028. This redesigned IR28 chassis will feature a wider cockpit to accommodate taller and differently built drivers, and this works perfectly for Hocevar.

“But yeah, we're in the middle of a 38-week stretch, so I don't know if I can pull off a surgery that quick to shorten myself to consider it,” he added.
