Chase Elliott has once again done what we all expected him to. He has thrown his weight behind Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway as the track struggles to survive amid a slew of complaints and issues, while its future remains in limbo.
Elliott was asked about the growing importance of venue stabilization for American grassroots racing. “Yeah, I was looking forward to going, and it didn't work out,” Elliott said of the Hickory cancellation. “I would love to make up the race somewhere and at least go run one at some point throughout the year.”
As the conversation continued, Elliott was quick to point out his fascination with the Nashville track. “Yeah, I think the big one, I'd love to do some of the 200s,” Elliott said. “One of my favorite races.”
The All-American 400 is, in fact, one of America's most prestigious races, and Elliott himself competed there last year. “Last year, I did the 200. I'd love to go back and do a race like that again at some point,” he explained.
Unfortunately, a return this year seems improbable as the event clashes with NASCAR Championship Weekend at Homestead. So now Elliott hopes another opportunity arises.
“I'll keep my fingers crossed,” Elliott said. “If it works, it works. If it doesn't, we'll go run somewhere.”
At a time when so much seems difficult for Nashville, support from the champion could serve as a necessary respite that supporters would have liked to hear. But after all, a question arises: what are the challenges currently facing the track? Well, let's find out.
Legal battles continue to cloud Nashville Fairgrounds' future
The uncertainty that plagues Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway has seen an uptick in the last few months. In February 2026, a new effort was launched by opponents to shut down the track and replace it with community housing.
This effort was met with a lawsuit from former racer Neil Chaffin, who argued that the language of the proposal was misleading. The judge seemed to agree with him, as in April, Chancellor Patricia Head Moskal ruled against the petition.
This brought a major victory to supporters and to Speedway Motorsports' plans to renovate the facility and potentially bring NASCAR back to the historic venue.
Then, this year, NASCAR veteran Dale Earnhardt Jr. himself supported the speedway by competing in the venue's CARS Tour event. He drew a sellout crowd of over 12500 fans, finishing 12th.

Despite the ruling, the fight isn't over. Progress on the speedway agreement remains stalled, and locals continue to voice complaints regarding noise and traffic concerns. With so many issues still ongoing, it would rightly be said that the future of one of America's most historic short tracks is still in limbo.
