Connor Zilisch has completed one-third of his 1101-mile undertaking in this weekend's NASCAR triple header at Charlotte Motor Speedway. What should have been three races over three days became more packed after rain hit the track.

On Friday, the 2025 O’Reilly Series runner-up was set to take part in the Truck Series, driving the No. 77 for Spire Motorsport. On Saturday, he would drive the  No. 1 car for JR Motorsports in the O'Reilly race, before moving to his No. 88 Trackhouse Racing car for the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday.

However, the Truck race was postponed twice and will take place at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday. There was also a possibility the O'Reilly race would get postponed, but it took place late Saturday night.

However, ahead of that, speaking about the potential challenge of covering 1101 miles in the triple header on one day, which is one mile more than the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 double, Connor Zilisch said (via Cup Scene on YouTube):

"Yeah, I mean, all three in one day would definitely be a lot, but you know it's our job. It's what I signed up for, even though I didn't expect it to all be like that, but I'm ready for whatever comes my way."

The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race concluded after a three-hour delay due to inclement weather at the track. Zilisch won the first stage of the race over his JR Motorsports teammate Justin Allgaier by 0.609 seconds. But it was Ross Chastain who prevailed in the rain-shortened race.

However, irrespective of the winners this weekend, all drivers will be racing their hardest to honor what the late Kyle Busch stood for.

Connor Zilisch Reflects on Daytona 500 Memory With Kyle Busch

Kyle Busch unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, May 21, after a severe case of pneumonia progressed into sepsis.

Connor Zilisch, who raced against Busch in the Truck and Cup series for a brief time, recalled an offbeat moment they shared earlier this year. During his media availability at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Zilisch was asked about his favourite memory of "Rowdy."

The 19-year-old recounted the Chevrolet drivers' meeting at the Daytona 500 earlier this year, where he asked a question regarding pit entry just when the meeting was about to be wrapped up.

"I asked if we were the last group of OEM to pit, what should the plan be if, you know, are we going to try and block the track and try and keep track position after the pit cycle, and I asked that question. It was like the end of the meeting, and everybody kind of went silent. Nobody was answering me, and Kyle speaks up, and he goes, 'No, just get the f*** out of the way.'" 

Busch’s blunt response will become a core memory for how Zilisch will remember the NASCAR legend.

For now, Austin Hill is all set to take over Busch's car at the upcoming Coca-Cola 600 with the No. 33, while Corey Day takes over Busch’s truck in the truck series with the No. 7.
