"Drivers are elephants": Joey Logano reveals NASCAR Veterans waiting for payback against Cup Series sensation

Carson Hocevar is notorious for his on-track antics. It's even gotten him nicknamed The Hurricane. However, as Joey Logano believes, those actions will have consequences.

During his recent appearance on the "Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour" podcast, the Team Penske driver discussed the Spire Motorsports driver’s recent run-ins. During this, he was questioned by the podcast's co-host, Mamba Smith, about why the veterans have not taken their revenge as yet. He replied,

"Probably saving it. I mean, vets also have the big picture in mind, too. They are saying they're going to do it when it's worth it, and they're going to do it when it's a real benefit to them, right? And they don't want to hurt themselves when you do it, right? It's not easy to just take someone out. Let's be honest. I mean, you're going to hurt your car some amount, possibly."

Over his short career, the No. 77 driver has had multiple run-ins with the veterans of the Cup Series, such as Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Austin Cindric during the 2025 season at Nashville. His most recent run-in was with Denny Hamlin, who brushed it aside.

Now it's not the first time a driver has faced a similar situation. Three years ago, Ross Chastain's driving had drivers seeking to take action against the driver. In addition to Noah Gragson's altercation with Chastain, drivers like Denny Hamlin admitted they went head-to-head with Chastain and didn't back down an inch.

To avoid a similar situation, Bubba Wallace had a lengthy conversation with Hocevar after the wrecks that occurred in Michigan. Wallace left him with a simple bit of advice that Kevin Harvick once told him. "‘Stop hitting (stuff), and your finishes will show.’"

Similarly, that's what Logano is emphasizing as well. "Drivers are elephants, though. They remember everything, right? Like, so it's still in the back of their mind, but they'll save it for years, right? They'll say, "Hey, remember when?" And you'll be like, "I guess we're even." Logano said.

Logano couldn't help but reflect on his own career when he first entered the Cup Series and compared how he could not afford the same amount of grace.

Joey Logano reflects on the lack of grace by fans in his early days

While discussing Hocevar’s run-ins with the veterans of the Cup Series, Logano could not help but reflect on his early career, where he was and is still booed by the fans for his run-ins with veterans like Kevin Harvick.

In the aforementioned podcast, he discussed the topic and how people love Carson Hocevar despite his crashes with veterans.

"When I came into the sport, and I had run-ins with veterans and all that stuff, right? And people hated me for that, right? Forever. And to this day I still get booed like you wouldn’t believe for the things I did when I was 19-years-old. This kid comes in and wrecks way more people than I ever did, and people love him."

Logano’s most famous run-in with Kevin Harvick was during the 2010 race at Pocono Raceway during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
