Dystany Spurlock is set to make history at Watkins Glen. The 34-year-old will become the first Black woman to compete across all three of NASCAR’s national series.
On April 30th, Garage 66 and MBM Motorsports announced that Spurlock would be making her debut in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. She will take part in the Bully Hill Vineyards 176, driving the #69 Toyota sponsored by Foxxtecca.
Speaking about her debut in the press release, she said, “I’m excited for Watkins Glen. It’s been a while since I’ve raced on a road course, so I’m looking forward to getting back out there. Having the opportunity to compete in ARCA and make my debut in the truck is going to be a lot of fun. I’m focused on learning as much as I can in both the car and the truck, and hopefully we can keep this top-10 momentum going!”
However, for Spurlock, the racing does not stop with the Truck Series. In fact, the driver will be doing double duty that day, as she will also participate in the ARCA Menards race, where she'll be piloting the No. 66 Foxxtecca Ford for MBM.
This isn't the first record she's about to make. A few days ago, she grabbed everyone's attention as she clinched a top ten at Kansas, becoming the first Black woman to compete in the national ARCA Menards Series.
Dystany Spurlock’s debut at the Truck Series will not just make history, but it will set an example for all the young and upcoming female racers in the motorsports world.
“Standing on that starting grid will mean everything, not just for me, but for every little girl who has ever looked at a racetrack and dared to imagine herself behind the wheel. We are just getting started,” Spurlock had said.
Capturing a Story Never Seen Before: Driven by Dystany
Dystany Spurlock has been making strides in the NASCAR world. All of her achievements are being documented in a docuseries fashion. The docuseries is called Driven by Dystany: The Road to NASCAR, which is being made by Foxxtecca.
“Dystany’s docuseries takes viewers inside a journey most people never see—the real path to becoming a NASCAR driver, told through her lived experience of a black woman in this space. It’s not just about building her audience or authentically highlighting diversity, it’s about expanding the audience for motorsports while directly challenging and exposing the assumptions that have kept too many people on the outside looking in.”
The docuseries makes an attempt at connecting the driver with her new fans through experiences, education, and storytelling.
