NASCAR has been facing criticism about the short practice sessions over the years. But that might come to an end as they are expected to double the practice time, and this news has fans overjoyed. 

Currently, the NASCAR Cup Series teams are being split into two groups, given a 25-minute practice session, and are only allotted one set of tires. This has been a standard practice since the pandemic.

However, as reported by The Athletic’s Jordan Bianchi, the practice session is expected to be doubled. He shared a post about the same via his X account, writing, 

"NEWS: NASCAR is expected to double how much practice time Cup Series teams get most weeks, a big change that would see practice extended to 50 minutes, sources tell @TheAthletic."

Under the new format, the teams will have one 50-minute practice session with all the cars on track. As reported by Bianchi, under the new proposed changes, the teams will also be provided with two sets of tires, "so they can then better make multiple runs during the session."

The extended practice session is all set to come into effect from next month in New Hampshire and will remain for the rest of the races except for Daytona and Talladega. They will continue to have no practice sessions.

Under the post uploaded by Bianchi on his X account, many fans flooded the comment section to share their excitement about the news.

One fan commented that the extended practice sessions can help the new drivers entering the series. They wrote, 

"Praise God for the newer drivers to the Cup Series. They’ve been screwed over since Covid got here."

The 23XI spotter for Bubba Wallace in the NASCAR Cup Series, Freddie Kraft, seemingly dropped a sarcastic response to the news. He wrote,

"Can’t wait to see the grandstands packed with all the fans that have been asking for more practice."

While one fan noted how the extended practice session could help the teams, they also recalled Ford advocating for extended practice times. They commented, 

"That makes sense.  I recall  (especially Ford) teams wanting a LOT more practice time. Apparently they're clueless prior to unloading despite all previous track data."

While there have been several drivers who voiced their opinion against the short practice session, the late Kyle Busch had been an advocate for longer practice sessions over the years. One fan pointed out the same and commented, 

"The biggest advocate in the Cup garage for the longer practice time won’t be there to see it…. He was running better he died as well, this whole situation just still sucks.. Miss you KB #kylebusch #NASCAR #ForEverRowdy"

Another fan applauded NASCAR’s decision and praised the sanctioning body. They wrote, 

"YES!!!!! My goodness, NASCAR is collecting so many Ws right now, and I am giving all the credit to the new leadership. It's becoming very clear what, or rather who, the problem was."
