FOX Sports is under the spotlight once again. After their share of Cup Series broadcasts ended, fans weren't happy with the priority given to the Indy 500 over the North Carolina Education Lottery 200.
It started when Steven Taranto posted the update on X. “Due to time constraints related to television and the Indy 500, the Craftsman Truck race will end under caution. The crowd boos.”
This decision came in light of the challenging schedule that Truck Series drivers faced this weekend. The North Carolina Education Lottery 200 in Charlotte was originally scheduled for Friday, but rain delays moved the race to a 10 am start before the Cup race.
Layne Riggs took the win while leading under caution to the checkered flag. The race saw 110 of the scheduled 134 laps completed before time ran out. And that meant to broadcast the 12:45 pm Indy 500 green flag and the preceding moments, the Truck Series was cut.
While FOX Sports cut the broadcast to the Indy 500 as the Truck Series ended early, fans weren't convinced by the move.
Fans Call for NASCAR to Cancel FOX Deal
One fan replied to Taranto. "And they had the nerve to lie to us and put in the “adverse weather clause”, which was garbage anyway. And the other race the night before was only running 45%. Fans are being ripped off in every way possible."
The fan referred to the weather delays that caused part of the Truck race to coincide with the Indy 500. In a weekend that has seen NASCAR lose Kyle Busch, the blows just kept coming.
Multiple fans voiced a similar opinion. One comment read, “I definitely booed, I know this weekend has been difficult to navigate. However, television shouldn't be dictating how races should finish.”
To add on to FOX Sports' troubles, even after their segment of Cup races ending, fans weren't happy about NASCAR partnering with the company, with one fan writing, “NASCAR needs to terminate their contract with Fox immediately. Or sue, I don't know. Or have prime buy out fox's part of the contract."
While most comments were centred around the annoyance of fans, some even took a fun dig from a different perspective. One fan wrote, “How insecure you have to be to be scared of the Truck series BRUHH 🤣I mean what can I say when a network TV channel like fox can barely manage to match IndyCar numbers with O'Reilly races.”
