From selling newspapers to announcing races: NASCAR broadcaster reveals his journey

When it comes to NASCAR coverage in the O'Reilly Auto Parts and the Cup Series, Adam Alexander stands tall. Despite coming from a humble background, Alexander made it big in the sport and is one of the rarest examples who truly made it in life.

Alexander recently sat with Kaitlyn Vincie, where he unravelled the backstory to his life, which started off by selling newspapers in Indianapolis to support the family's income, especially on the day of the 500.

"That was really the only time I had been to Indianapolis Motor Speedway or around the track until I called the Indy 500, or was part of the Indy 500 radio broadcast, in 2001," Alexander said. "What got me going in NASCAR was when I moved to Evansville, Indiana, and part of our television market was Owensboro, Kentucky."

Following this, Alexander added that he started when Darrell and Michael Waltrip were racing, and Green Brothers were active. He went on to cover them during races for the local television station for which he worked at the time.

"We would occasionally do highlights, and that got me interested in NASCAR. Then, by accident, I started doing a local radio show that was all racing. From there, I just started meeting people in the NASCAR world, getting very connected and eventually got an audition with MRN Radio. That was how it all began for me," Alexander further added.

Born in Madison, Indiana, Adam Alexander started working for Indianapolis Motor Speedway Racing Network in the 2000s and then for Motor Racing Network from 2000 to 2006. He moved to NASCAR on TNT in 2006 and then became the host of the SPEED Centre.

Alexander is currently associated with The CW for the lap-by-lap announcement of the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series races, and with TNT and Prime Video for the Cup Series. And as things stand, he is set to welcome Jimmie Johnson at TNT.

Jimmie Johnson joins Adam Alexander to broadcast NASCAR

TNT Sports received an enormous impetus as Jimmie Johnson will join Adam Alexander and the company for the NASCAR broadcast. Besides joining, Johnson will also race in the NASCAR Truck Series for Tricon Garage, driving the No. 1 Toyota Tundra truck backed by his longtime sponsor, Carvana.

"Joining TNT Sports is an opportunity that truly energises me,” Johnson said in a release. “NASCAR has given me so much throughout my career, and getting the chance to share that passion from a new perspective alongside a fantastic team of NASCAR legends is something I’m really looking forward to."

As per the report on June 17, Johnson, the seven-time Cup Series champion and the co-owner of Legacy Motor Club, will join with Marty Smith. He will be accompanied in the booth that already has big names such as Steve Letarte, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and of course, Adam Alexander.
