Corey Day just secured his first career win at Talladega in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. And sharing the spotlight with him was NFL star Jason Kelce.
Jason Kelce was seen helping the #17 Hendrick Motorsports pit crew of Corey Day at the Talladega race. A lot of pit crew members are former college football players. And since Kelce has always been a fan of the sport, so making a one-off appearance wasn't a surprise.
During the race, Kelce was in his personalized HMS pit crew suit. At the first pit stop in the race, Kelce held out the car marking sign and later held the gas canister.
And when Corey Day crossed the finish line in first place, there was Jason, rushing out with the pit crew as Day performed the celebratory burnout. Kelce joined the team in the Victory Lane as the HMS team celebrated Day's first win.
After his race, while in an interview, Day spoke about having Jason Kelce as his pit crew.
“Super cool to have him. He's been a fan of the sport for a long time. it was cool that the 17 team could give him a behind the scenes this weekend," Day said. "... It was cool to meet him; he's a super cool guy and really down to earth. A lot of fun to have him here with us today."
Corey Day Claims His First Victory
After qualifying in third place on Saturday, the Hendrick Motorsports driver had a quiet race until the last few laps. It was a three-way battle for the lead, and Corey Day wasn't the frontrunner.
During the final laps of the race, Sam Mayer held the lead while Day and Sheldon Creed battled it out. That's when Mayer spun around, which resulted in a multicar crash. This helped Day get ahead and bring home the win.
While talking to the media after the race, he said, “I sure as h*** didn’t think it [first win] would be at a superspeedway. My 17 guys just built a rocket ship.”
