The rumours around Dodge’s impending return to the Cup Series are getting louder. Amidst this, a new picture has emerged on X, via the official handle of Rammin is Racing.

The image shows a Kaulig Racing trailer parked outside the Aerodyn wind tunnel testing facility. Insider Bozi Tatarevic first tweeted the picture stating that the truck "seems to be spending a lot of time in front of the Aerodyn wind tunnel building recently."

Later, Rammin is Racing responded to it and clarified that the truck is actually the "Dodge Charger body for the NASCAR Cup Series." While that detail cannot be confirmed just yet, the publication seemed confident in their statement.

Interestingly, just over a few weeks ago, Chris Rice, the president of Kaulig Racing, addressed rumours surrounding Dodge’s Cup Series comeback on the Door Bumper Clear podcast. He had stated that complications surrounding the engine development programme are one of the obstacles in Dodge’s Cup return. 

However, the tweet from Rammin Is Racing stated that the engine issue is actually sorted, and that "it’s just an issue of being ready on time."

It also suggested that a big announcement is likely around the corner, which is being linked to the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona, provided the approvals are sorted by then. 

This echoes what Dale Earnhardt Jr. also said on the Dale Jr Download podcast regarding Dodge’s Cup return, stating that instead of Chris Rice confirming it on a podcast, Stellantis would do a proper announcement on a much larger scale. 

There were rumours of Team Penske potentially switching to Dodge from current partner Ford, harking back to the team’s 2011-12 era. This is unlikely to happen, and Dale Jr. feels that Kaulig, along with a similarly-sized team, are the most likely candidates to team up with Dodge for a Cup programme. 

What happens to Ty Dillon in 2027?

The tweet from Rammin is Racing also spoke on rumours surrounding Ty Dillon’s future with Kaulig Racing. With an increased likelihood of Kaulig switching to Dodge from Chevrolet, Dillon is rerportedly not expected to be in the team 2027, but this is something that remains unconfirmed for now.

On the other hand, they stated that A.J Allmendinger is reportedly expected to stay in the team for the next three seasons. 

Interestingly, just a few days ago, Chris Rice pushed back against suggestions that he and Dillon have already discussed plans for 2027, emphasizing that the team's priority remains improving its performance in 2026. He also reiterated that the 34-year-old has traditionally raced on one-year agreements with Kaulig, and that it is nothing new. 

When asked about a timeline for deciding, Rice told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, “Oh, absolutely. I think you're looking at somewhere in August, probably first (week) of August, something like that. And he knows that, that's exactly what it states. And everybody knows that.”
