“It only helps business”: Carson Hocevar’s ‘WWE’ gimmick gets endorsement from NASCAR Insider

NASCAR surely is able to sell race tickets on the weekend, but on the weekdays, what keeps racing alive is its personalities. Carson Hocevar’s comments, alongside his jibe-filled play with Corey Heim, have now turned this midweek noise into a part of the larger show.

Charlie Marlow, on his Charlie Marlow show, backed Hocevar’s playful edge on his show, saying, “There’s nothing wrong with a little WWE during the week, as long as the competition is true on the weekends, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.”

He added, “I’m all for hyping it up. I’m all for taking jabs at each other. I think it only helps NASCAR. It only helps business when these guys are going at it.”

His point was that as long as the racing itself remains fair on the track, drivers publicly taking playful shots at one another during the week only adds intrigue, builds rivalries, and gives fans another reason to tune in.

From a business standpoint, Marlow feels personalities like him and such storylines help NASCAR generate more attention beyond race day.

The endorsement also comes against the background of Hocevar guest-hosting the Dale Jr. Download podcast, where the driver took a dig at the media always mentioning Jesse Love and Connor Zilisch being best friends instead of focusing on the rivalry.

What’s even more interesting was that later, NASCAR released its June 24 Rolling Stones collaboration video featuring Hocevar, Zilisch, Love, and Cleetus McFarland all together.

Marlow then roped in Hocevar and Corey Heim’s playful exchange on X. “I love that. It is a show. It’s entertainment. Look, it’s also a sport. It’s also competitive,” Marlow said on the Charlie Marlow Show.

Even though these comments provide great insight into the drivers’ relationship, the bigger question remains: what was the dispute between Heim and Hocevar, and what exactly went down on X? Well, let’s find out.

Hocevar and Heim turn Coronado clash into X theatre

This entire ordeal started late on June 21 at the Anduril 250 at Naval Base Coronado after Heim spun Hocevar during the race. Heim went on to win the race, while Hocevar finished 19th.

It escalated further after a fan warned that the No. 77 “will remember.” This immediately prompted Heim to quote-post an old meme clip of Hocevar asking him to get out of the way.

Hocevar jumped in with a prompt response, answering with a Dexter meme before the jokes, then shifted to sponsors, as reported by The Daily Downforce. It didn’t even end there, as Hocevar mocked Heim’s “cell service,” while Heim went on to blame Spectrum.

To settle it at the end, Hocevar offered to buy Heim a win shirt to help pay his bill. Many would see this as a playful exchange, and maybe that’s exactly what it was. Because, according to Denny Hamlin, Hocevar later texted Heim after the race to congratulate him on his victory, drawing direct support for Marlow’s statements that all of this was nothing more than friendly banter.
