The NASCAR race weekend at Charlotte was supposed to be a healing experience for the NASCAR world, which is currently mourning the loss of Kyle Busch. Unfortunately, it began with a rain-shortened O'Reilly race, which was chaotic for many, especially Jesse Love.

Due to the heavy rain and later fog, the race was postponed thrice. Six hours after the green flag and a lot of waiting, NASCAR finally decided to call it after Lap 91. Ross Chastain was declared the winner of the rain-shortened event, while Love was running second. 

This did not sit well with the defending NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series champion. During his post-race interview with CW Sports, he said, “I think it’s a complete joke, handling it how they handled it.” 

“As much as I’m angry, confused, and upset, I also realize there’s a lot of hurt people right now, and this week’s taught us that there’s things so much bigger than racing,” the Richard Childress Racing driver added. 

The defending O’Reilly series champion had a tough battle with Chastain out in front during the second stage of the race. The race leader changed back and forth as the two tried to win the top spot. 

Jesse Love led four out of the 91 laps, and he finished just 0.001 seconds behind Chastain. Kyle Busch’s replacement in the Cup Series for this weekend, Austin Hill, finished the race in third, completing the podium. 

However, despite this setback, Love might find a silver lining by the end of the 2026 season. 

Jesse Love on the radar of Cup teams for the upcoming seasons

Richard Childress Racing has been having a tough few seasons in the Cup Series. However, their woes might further deepen as other Cup Series teams have begun to eye the driver. 

The O’Reilly driver has been putting up consistent performances over the last few races, and this has caught the eye of the other teams in the garages. Jordan Bianchi, on The Teardown, stated, “You talk to people in the garage, they think he’s [Love] really talented. There’s Cup teams that are interested in him.”   

Bianchi’s statement can be backed up by the statistics. The 21-year-old has bagged ten top 10s this season so far, and he currently sits in second place in the championship. 

So it does not come as a surprise that Love is on the radar of big teams like Hendrick, Trackhouse, and Spire. It will be interesting to see if the Richard Childress racing driver stays with his current team or makes a switch to his rival team.
