For nearly two decades, Lowe’s was one of the most recognizable brands in NASCAR through its long-running partnership with Jimmie Johnson and Hendrick Motorsports. Now, as Johnson prepares for what he says will be the final race of his NASCAR career at the 2027 Daytona 500, the home improvement giant has sparked speculation about a possible return.
The conversation began on X on Monday after Lowe’s tagged Ally Racing (HMS sponsor) and Carvana Racing (Legacy Motor Club sponsor), writing: “@allyracing @CarvanaRacing need an ally for a last ride? Check your DMs.”
Johnson quickly joined the exchange with a lighthearted response, posting: “Let me put you guys in a group chat.”

Lowe’s then replied: “Talk soon, chat,” while Ally Racing chimed in with a series of raised-hand emojis, further fueling excitement among NASCAR fans.
Although nothing has been officially confirmed, the interaction immediately raised hopes that Lowe’s could reunite with Johnson for his farewell appearance at the 2027 Daytona 500.
The retailer, which has a market cap of just over $118 billion as of this writing, was synonymous with Johnson's No. 48 Chevrolet during the most successful years of his NASCAR career.
The social media exchange comes only days after it was confirmed that Hendrick Motorsports and Ally will allow Johnson to use the stylized No.48 on his Legacy Motor Club Toyota for his final NASCAR start.
The seven-time Cup Series champion made two one-off appearances in the Cup Series in 2026. He had confirmed a while ago that the 2027 Daytona 500 will mark the end of his driving career, making it a fitting occasion for several of the biggest names associated with his career to reunite for one last time.
What NASCAR fans think of Jimmie Johnson's potential reunion with Lowe's
After seeing the buzz around Lowe’s, Carvana, and Johnson’s X posts, many people online are excited at the possible prospect of a reunion between the three entities, leaving comments under the posts.
One such user left a GIF that says, “I used to pray for times like this”, while another added, “Glad to see you guys back even if it's just for a one-off.”
Another user saw the commercial side of it and said, “Just heard Jimmie Jams SXM interview this morning on the subject! This is what fans want! Sales will skyrocket!”
Another user hopes for it to be long-lasting and said, “NASCAR fans, Let's give em such a reception that they stay forever.”
In an appearance on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio a few days ago, Jimmie Johnson spoke about this potential Lowe's reunion and said it would be far-fetched. Cut to Monday, that interview segment seemingly made it come true.
