It’s the 4th of July, and while every American celebrates their 250th Independence Day, one problem creeps up year on year as the celebrations continue: Car parking. 

Anyone who has faced this issue will immediately relate to what Amy Earnhardt had to say about her experience of interacting with a ‘horn-happy driver’.

Amy was recalling an incident from a 4th of July of years past when she was at the beach house with her children and her friends. Amy recalled using a public spot since the patch outside their house had been dug up. 

On this week's Bless Your ‘Hardt podcast, Dale Jr and she explained the circumstances of why she had to use the public parking, and Amy said, “It’s right in front of the house, but if you pull out and go eat or anything like that, it’s gonna be a challenge to get it back. So I bought myself some cones. I ordered cones off of Amazon like a total Karen.”

Amy said that she was willing to get a ticket for putting cones in a public parking space and that she had cones for her car as well as her friend’s, and things went pretty smoothly until the last time they tried to step out for a meal with the children.

Amy said, “It worked out really well. Except the last time we were pulling out to go to dinner.” Amy said that Lisa, her friend, was trying to get the four kids into their seats, and she had backed up a bit for easier.

“I’m kind of hanging off in the road, but the barricades are in the road too, so I’m not really messing up traffic. So there’s a guy coming through the stop sign, and he can’t see that Lis’s on the other side of the car; he just sees that Suburban’s kind of pulled out in the road, and he decides to start honking at me.”

How Amy tackles a horn-happy driver

On vacation at the time, Amy and Co. were in no rush, and being honked at didn’t really help the mood. While most people would probably roll down the window and either say something or flip a sign, Amy decided to go a different way.

On the Bless Your ‘Hardt podcast, Amy said, “I just get out of the car, and I walk straight up to his window, and I just stay there until he rolls his window down. He’s in there with his wife, and I was like, ‘Listen, we have little kids trying to get into the car. We’re gonna take a minute, okay?’”

She added, “‘You can see that I can’t get into my driveway; this is my house, you’re gonna need to chill out.’ And he goes, ‘You scared the s*** out of me.’ I was like, ‘You probably shouldn’t be honking then. What are you doing?’ I get back in my car, and I take my ever-loving time getting out of there because he was waiting to park in that spot anyway.”

Amy took her cones with her and, hearing that story, which his wife hadn’t told him before, Dale Jr. exclaimed, “End of the show. Man, none of our topics are gonna top that.”
