Multiple NASCAR Penalties Issued as Several Teams Face Suspension After Charlotte

The race weekend at Charlotte was anything but calm. And to add to this, NASCAR has now announced penalties to two different teams in the Cup and O’Reilly series.

On Wednesday, the NASCAR team announced a list of penalties after the Coca-Cola 600. They issued a suspension for jack man Ian Schultz and tire changer Deiontae Jones. The two members of Live Fast Motorsports will have to sit out the next two races at Nashville and Michigan.

The first penalty was issued to Live Fast Motorsports after Kathrine Legge’s wheel came undone. According to the rules laid down in NASCAR’s rule book, it requires two of the crew members responsible to be suspended.

Meanwhile, Ross Chastain’s O’Reilly team, JR Motorsports, was slapped with a $5000 fine and a race suspension for Michael Roberts, who will be sitting out the race at Pocono on June 13th. This punishment comes under the sections 8.8.10.4a and 10.5.2.5g of the NASCAR rule book.

As of now, the respective teams have yet to make their statement about the decision. However, this is not the only penalty news that has been taking over the NASCAR world.

Ryan Preece and RFK lose penalty appeal

The controversy surrounding Preece’s Texas penalty continues. After the Wurth 400, the RFK driver was hit with a fine of $50,000 penalty along with 25 points being docked.

The No. 60 driver was hit with the penalty after he crashed with the Joe Gibbs Racing driver on lap 101 of the race. NASCAR used his radio chatter as evidence in issuing the decision.

The hearing for the penalty took place on Wednesday, and NASCAR announced the verdict via its social media.

“Upon hearing the testimony, the decisions of the National Motorsports Appeals Panel are: 1. That the appellant violated the rule(s) set forth in the Penalty Notice.

"2. That the Panel affirms and upholds the original Penalty assessed by NASCAR. Although not a unanimous decision, NASCAR and RFK Racing presented competing interpretations of common data. Neither side clearly proved their point, but Mr. Preece’s comments showed that he chose to not  cut his competitor any breaks.”

As reported by Bob Pockrass, the team still has time to appeal the verdict till Friday, but according to the statement made by the team, where they expressed their disappointment with the decision, it doesn't seem like they will go ahead with the same.
