Apart from being a NASCAR O'Reilly champion, Justin Allgaier is also a 'Mayor.' Well, not technically, but as per his team boss, Dale Earnhardt Jr., the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series driver carries qualities similar to Jeff Burton, who is often called the 'Mayor' in NASCAR.
In a press conference on June 13 after Allgaier's Pocono win, Dale Jr. shared his thoughts on the 40-year-old's leadership qualities. Besides leading JR Motorsports as its poster boy, the 2024 Xfinity Series champion also leads by example when it comes to his influence, empathy, and empowerment of others in the team.
"I mean, I think he is very similar to Burton in that way, who is the original 'Mayor'," said Dale Jr. (via Cup Scene on YouTube). "So I mean, he's smart about advocating for safety or whatever is necessary, and he gets in those conversations," Dale Jr. said.
Former NASCAR driver Jeff Burton is known as the Mayor in NASCAR because of his respected voice and diligent work to advocate for drivers' safety. As per Dale Jr., Justin Allgaier reflects the same.
"He's not a guy that avoids or doesn't get in the middle, he's in those conversations interjecting himself into them, and his opinions are pretty smart, and so yeah, I think he definitely deserves that type of respect," Dale Jr. further added.
Without a doubt, Justin Allgaier is one of the most experienced NASCAR drivers out there. With the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series being his forte, the JR Motorsports driver has earned ample respect for his stand on driver safety concerns and being a voice for development.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. Called Justin Allgaier Cornerstone of JRM
On Saturday evening at Pocono, Dale Earnhardt Jr. dropped a defining statement on Justin Allgaier, his star driver on the team. Calling him dependable, Dale Jr. remarked on how Allgaier anchored the team to bring it where it is today.
"Justin is just dependable," he said. "He's going to run good every week. Some days he'll be our best car, but he'll always be a solid race car. He's been the cornerstone of the company, and his success and consistency has helped stabilize us throughout some tough times. I'm wondering if we just didn't really know how good he was."
With five wins to his name in 17 races this season, Justin Allgaier has a 250-point lead over second-placed Jesse Love of Richard Childress Racing. It is clear that Allgaier is spearheading JR Motorsports.
