The recently concluded NASCAR Cup Series race at Chicagoland was a frustrating affair for some fans, especially those who drove to the track. Severe rainfall and deep mud caused the fans deep trouble as they were on their way to the race track. Taking their concerns into account, they shared their thoughts on social media.

As NASCAR returned to Chicagoland after a seven-year hiatus, the setup was far from expectations. Even though there were free general parking areas, many of them became heavily flooded, such as Lots A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and P.

NASCAR journalist Jeff Gluck shared an image on X to showcase the hardships fans faced on their way to the track. In the caption, he wrote,

"Still so many people trying to park, unfortunately."

There were delays because of rerouting when the track officials were forced to revise the parking plans, shut down portions of the primary fields on race day, and opt for the alternative asphalt parking near the Route 66 Raceway.

As a result, the fans got stuck not only in floods due to heavy rain, but also in mud and traffic, which caused ample delay, and many could not arrive on time. The bumper-to-bumper exit traffic on the Speedway Boulevard and Laraway Road left the fans waiting for over two hours to leave the property.

Even though the organizers promoted ride-share applications, they also suffered severe congestion and surges in pricing due to extreme demand. While several fans failed to make it to the track, the race went on at its scheduled time.

Reacting to the issue, a fan wrote, "If NASCAR would consistently refuse to race at any venue without adequate paved parking for stand sizes this problem would vanish like a fart in the wind."

Another fan wrote, "Man, that does suck. But if only they had all day to get there. Not like this was a 1:00 local start time."

Another took a direct dig at Chicagoland's operational capabilities, writing,

"Honey, now I remember why we stopped coming here."

Another fan shared the sentiment, as they wrote,

"This has always been an issue with Chicagoland. Their customer service is some of the worst. NASCAR doesn’t help either. But I guess they’re one and the same now."

One of those who was caught up in the traffic for hours shared their experience, writing,

"Arrived over 2 and a half hours before green flag. Were still 2.8 miles from the track at green flag and hadn't moved in 30 minutes. Gave up."

With that said, it will be interesting to see NASCAR's stance on this and if the governing body makes a decision to address the fans' concern.

As for the race itself, Chase Briscoe of Joe Gibbs Racing claimed victory ahead of his teammate, Christopher Bell. It was his first win of the season, while championship leader Denny Hamlin came home in third place.
