NASCAR Lands Qualcomm Deal for San Diego Street Race Debut

NASCAR is all set to take on its boldest experiment to date as it takes on the San Diego Naval Base, an active military base. The race will be one of a kind, featuring naval planes and other military equipment in the background.

However, the novelty does not stop there. NASCAR recently announced its ties with a giant tech company. San Diego-based Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. is all set to be the Official Circuit Partner and also the naming rights partner.

The construction of the 16-turn, 3.4-mile-long circuit, which will be known as the Qualcomm Circuit, will begin in late May. Speaking about the new partnership, Amy Lupo, President of NASCAR San Diego, said in a statement:

"The Qualcomm Circuit represents the future of motorsports—built with precision, purpose, and performance in mind—all while paying tribute to the extraordinary history of Naval Base Coronado and celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States Navy. We are proud to partner with a San Diego-born global technology leader as we make history together on this remarkable stage."

With the company actively involved in developing and designing global communications and computing, NASCAR and Qualcomm are looking forward to extending the partnership further. The Qualcomm Circuit is the third-longest in NASCAR history, and will host the series on June 19-21.

Qualcomm brings tech ingenuity to the NASCAR broadcast

This San Diego race will replace the Chicago race, and the circuit will be hosting all three of NASCAR's series races - Truck, O'Reilly, and Cup.

NASCAR calling the circuit ‘Qualcomm Circuit' also gives the fans a glimpse of what lies ahead for the sport. With them partnering with a tech company, the sport is keen on giving its fans a future with a blend of traditional racing and modern tech partners.

Qualcomm is planning a very interesting TV broadcast angle for fans, as Don McGuire, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer of the organization, revealed to NBC San Diego.

"We're actually working with the broadcast partners for the Sunday race to provide a special vantage point for viewers that is powered and shot on Snapdragon," he said.

Like a regular NASCAR weekend, the Truck Series will race on Friday, O'Reilly on Saturday, and the Cup Series will host its Anduril 250 on Sunday.
