Just days after Natalie Decker sparked discussion with her rage quit, her husband, Derek Lemke, has now found himself in the spotlight. Lemke caught the attention of NASCAR fans after he posted a picture of a pen and a Team Reaume file, which led to the speculation that he would be taking over Natalie’s truck officially from Nashville onwards.
However, just hours later, after teasing the contract, Lemke took to his social media to announce his return to NASCAR with the No. 22 Team Reaume. He captioned the picture with, “I can’t play the guitar, but we are still headed to Nashville.”
Lemke previously drove for Reamue Brothers Racing. He made his debut with the team in 2023 at Richmond. However, he participated in the series part-time.
During the race at Dover Motor Speedway, Decker, who drove for Team Reaume, had a meltdown. She was handed a penalty for a starting infringement. Later, she was hit with a penalty for speeding in the pit lane. The last straw for Decker was when she was black-flagged for going too slow. All of this took place within 81 laps.
At some point, the former No. 22 said she did not want to return to the series and quit in the middle of the race. During this, her husband, Derek Lemke, took over the vehicle.
This led to a lot of backlash from fans and the former NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick. While talking about the incident on the “Speed with Harvick and Buxton podcast," he said,
“I’m in the zero sympathy category. I think that racing is something—either you’re good at it, or you’re not, and I don’t like to see a mockery made out of what our sport is. And we have so many great up-and-coming female drivers.”
This was not the only backlash the 28-year-old received after she rage-quit the sport.
NASCAR insider rips into Natalie Decker for rage-quitting mid-race
The former Team Reaume rage-quitting mid-race was the biggest story to come out of NASCAR’s Truck Series at Dover Motor Speedway. Soon after, Decker was the talking point.
While discussing the incident on an episode of Door Bumper Clear, Freddie Kraft did not hold back from mincing his words. “She’s blaming the race director. What the f*** did he do? Or the series director likes it’s not their fault. You picked this race to go to.”
He added further, “You’re you; you got out of line too soon on a restart. That’s a penalty. You sped on pit road. That’s a penalty.”
Kraft went on to defend the racing director. He also asked if NASCAR should allow her to race in the NOAPS. As of now, it remains unclear if Natalie Decker will come back to the series.
