With the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season drawing closer, the silly season might already have its first victim. At the moment, the rumors surround the Kaulig camp, more specifically, Richard Childress' grandson Ty Dillon, and part of it has to do with Chevy's ties with Kaulig.

It started when Stock Car Rumors and Nostalgia on Instagram put out a post stating that Childress’ grandson might be out of Kaulig Racing.

"Apparently the rumor around the Kaulig shop is that Ty won’t return to the 10 next year. But they also said that last year and he’s still there."

According to reports released by FOX Sports reporter Bob Pockrass earlier this year, Dillon will be a free agent at the end of the year. He currently sits 32nd in the NASCAR standings without a win, nor a top-5 or top-10 finish, so the possibility of Dillon not getting an extension could materialize.

The rumors carry extra weight as there have been murmurs floating around the  NASCAR garage about Dodge making a comeback with Kaulig for the 2027 season and allegedly parting ways with Chevrolet.

 This move could also mark the end of Richard Childress’ long-standing technical ties with the team, as Matt Kaulig's organization used engines supplied by ECR. If this comes to fruition, Ty might be out of a seat for the upcoming season. 

For now, nothing has been confirmed by either of the parties involved. Only time will tell if Ty Dillon will keep his seat. 

Who could take over the Kaulig Racing seat for 2027?

Several names have been floating around the NASCAR garage as to who could take over Richard Childress’ grandson’s seat if he is let go by Kaulig Racing. However, the strongest contender for the seat so far has been Josh Berry. 

Berry was released from the  Wood Brothers Racing team earlier in June. However, the biggest roadblock for Berry might be the lack of sponsorships that he has to offer. 

There have been two other names being tossed around in the rumor mill. According to The Athletic’s Jeff Gluck, Corey LaJoie and Justin Haley are the two names that Kaulig might be interested in. Both of the drivers currently compete in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with Kaulig Racing itself. 

It will be interesting to see if the team will stick with Richard Childress' grandson Ty Dillon or if they will move on to the other drivers available.
