Even though Richard Childress raced in NASCAR, he is more famous as a team owner, rather than a driver. Now, bringing back his old self, Childress is set to race again at 80 years of age, for the first time in 45 years.

Sharing an update on the same, Cleetus McFarland, the newest driver for RCR and renowned YouTuber, opened up about it in his recent YouTube video, and how he managed to get Richard Childress a drive.

“The guys at RCR have been beating me up, saying, ‘You’ve got to get Richard in a race. You’ve got to do it, he’ll do it.’ So, I know he still drives aggressively. I hit him up, I said, ‘Hey, if you want to race Stafford, you know, we’ll do it.’ And he just texted me and said, ‘I’m in.”

Following this, McFarland revealed the venue of the race, and where Richard Childress Racing driver will drive. If Mr. Childress takes the wheel, he will be racing for the first time since November 22, 1981.

“Now, here’s something that just hit my phone that made me more excited. This is very, very random there. Like, there’s a 0% chance you guys could ever guess this. July 17th is our Crown Vic Stafford race, right? It’s like our favorite spot, kind of. Richard Childress is racing in it. THE Richard Childress,” McFarland further added.

Childress, a NASCAR Hall of Famer, has 285 races to his name. He does have 76 Top 10s to his name, but unfortunately no wins. With that said, it will be interesting to see if Mr. Childress can make a mark in the same event, where the likes of Greg Biffle, Travis Pastrana have featured last year, and Ryan Preece won the race.

While Richard Childress is expected to race in the upcoming, it will also be important for him to keep Kyle Busch's situation with RCR in check.

Kyle Busch future with Richard Childress Racing explained

Renowned NASCAR journalist Jordan Bianchi shared his thoughts on Kyle Busch's future with Richard Childress' team for the upcoming seasons. Spilling the beans, Bianchi wrote,

"Right now, it seems very likely that Kyle Busch is going to return to Richard Childress Racing in a contract extension. You may be asking yourself, 'Why would Kyle Busch return to Richard Childress Racing?' A situation that doesn't seem to be working based on their current result."

Notably, Kyle Busch is currently undergoing a 105-race winless streak and has been winless for nearly three seasons. However, two top 10s in the last three races with new crew chief Andy Street might turn things around for him.
