The Race Team Alliance, which consists of 15 teams along with big names like Rick Hendrick, Richard Petty, and Richard Childress, has ushered in a new era, as it elected its second president. This also signifies a fresh direction for the alliance. 

Back in March, the co-owner of Michael Waltrip Racing, Rob Kauffman, announced that he was stepping back from his duties as the president of the organization. He has been of help to the RTA since the organisation was founded back in 2014.

Under his leadership, several changes in the NASCAR world took place, one of the major ones being the introduction of the charter system.

With Kauffman stepping down, the former Richard Childress Racing team president, Torrey Galida, will be assuming the role. He brings with him his decade-long expertise in leading the team. Before joining RCR, he was the chief marketing officer of Roush Fenway Racing. Galida also served as the president of Millsport. 

However, the changes do not stop at this. As reported by Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal, alongside Kauffman, the RFK Racing co-owner Jack Roush has also stepped down and will be replaced by the team’s president, Chip Bower.

Furthermore, the nine-member committee has now expanded to a ten-member committee as they induct the new NASCAR Cup team, which is 23XI Racing. Denny Hamlin will be a member of the committee.

With these changes within the committee, the RTA will continue to work together to promote and grow the sport. 

NASCAR Team Co-owner Reacts to Torrey Galida’s Election

The Joe Gibbs co-owner, Heather Gibbs, who is also a member of the RTA board, welcomed the election of Rob Kauffman as the new Race Team Alliance president. 

In a press release, she stated, "He understands both the competitive and business sides of the sport and has earned the trust and respect of teams throughout the garage."

Torrey Galida, who previously worked in the US military, is a Duke University graduate, where he completed his MBA degree. He soon joined Ford Motor Company, which kicked off his career in NASCAR. 

Under his new role, he will be working with the RTA Executive Director, Jonathan Marshall, to decide on various things concerning the sport.
