Chase Elliott experienced a disastrous outing at the recently concluded Coca-Cola 600 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 24. The Hendrick Motorsports driver, who started the race from 16th place, crashed out on the 90th lap, following which he let his frustration out.

"I just made a mistake, spun out, hit the wall," the Hendrick Motorsports driver told the media after the race. "Unfortunately, I hate it. It's been a terrible race. I feel like throughout the course of my career, I just crashed a bunch."

Elliott was running in 16th place, the same spot he started his race from, and going into the 90th lap, he wrecked. The No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 snapped loose coming out of Turn 2, and it spun across the backstretch and slammed nose-first into the SAFER barrier.

"I missed a lot of race left," Elliott further added. "I was trying to find something. I moved up to the top there, trying to click off some faster laps. And yeah, I made a mistake, stepped over the line and paid the price."

As a result, Elliott had to go home with a 37th-place DNF at Charlotte. Trackhouse Racing's Daniel Suarez went on to win the rain-shortened race, as the governing body called it off due to weather after just 373 laps.

Joe Gibbs Racing's Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin wrapped up the second and third places, respectively. While Tyler Reddick and Kyle Larson completed the top five.

Chase Elliott weighs in on emotional Kyle Busch tribute

Prior to the Cup Series race on Sunday, NASCAR hosted an emotional tribute for the late Kyle Busch and his family at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Fellow drivers, officials, team members, and fans, came together to pay respect to the late driver.

"Yeah, really, really tough," Elliott said in the same interview when asked about the Busch tribute at the race track. "I think of everybody involved, drivers, team members, and fans included. Took a lot of courage from every member of the Busch family and certainly intend to lend them all the support we can throughout the course of the time to come."

Kyle Busch, one of NASCAR's most celebrated drivers, passed away on Thursday, May 21. As reported by The Athletic, the two-time Cup Series driver suffered from severe pneumonia, which developed into sepsis. At the time of passing, Busch was 41 years old.

Elliott and Busch raced together in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway during the 2017 First Data 500, where Busch won the race in overtime.
