Sheldon Creed experienced a day to forget as the Haas Factory Team driver crashed in the Charbroil 300 race after driving through spilled oil. As a result, Creed's opportunity to finish the Charlotte Motor Speedway race in a formidable position faced an unfortunate end, following which an upset Creed shared his thoughts.

“I didn’t see the fluid and didn’t really know it was there, so when I got there, it just sent me straight into the wall," Creed said. "I saw a couple others in front of me hit the wall and just didn’t have enough time to react."

What happened was that Dawson Cram's No. 35 machine dropped an engine that spilled oil onto the track. Not just Creed, but eight cars went straight into the wall after they drove through it.

Creed started his race from 12th place and improved to 10th by the end of Stage 1. He further improved to eighth place in Stage 2 before facing the wreck in Lap 73 of 91. As a result, the opportunity for a good finish was lost.

"It’s unfortunate for our team because I thought our Road Ranger Chevrolet was really good. Thank you to everyone back at Haas Factory Team for bringing me another fast car," Creed further added.

While a few drivers managed to continue the race, it was the end of the road for Creed and Taylor Gray. Notably, it wasn't just Creed, but his other teammate from Haas Factory Team, Sam Mayer, who also faced a similar outcome.

Sam Mayer's Charlotte outing ended in a crash

Sheldon Creed's Haas Factory Team teammate, Sam Mayer, experienced a crash on Saturday in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race and came home with a DNF. In the weather-shortened race, Mayer suffered a hard overcorrection crash.

“I tried to save it, but I hit the traction compound just right, and it sent me right into the wall," Mayer said after the race. "There just wasn’t enough room and things just happened a little too fast there in turn one,” Mayer said.

“Thank you to everyone at Char-Broil for riding with me on the hood this weekend, and everyone back at the shop at Haas Factory Team for bringing me a fast Chevrolet.”

Ross Chastain of JR Motorsports won the race, as he crossed the finish line 0.001 second ahead of Jesse Love. Austin Hill, William Sawalich, and Corey Day completed the top five.
