US Governor & Co. Speaks Up on $75M Decision as Pocono Sees Major Success in Recent Years

Pocono Raceway’s success in recent years has become one of the most talked-about in the NASCAR world. After the recently sold-out Cup Series race on Sunday, June 14th, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, alongside the president of Pocono Raceway, addressed the media about the successful event.

The 2026 Great American Getaway 400 was a great success, as yet again, the venue sold out for the fourth consecutive year. Not just that, but for the sixth consecutive year, the venue managed to sell out its 3,300 camping spots and has continued to generate an income of  $75 million for the state.

The Pocono Raceway president, Ben May, further spoke about how the sell-out event is a testament to the decisions made around fan interests.

"My opinion is that the fan base here is incredible," he said. "They appreciate what we do, and we appreciate them. You know, everything we do, nine out of ten times the decisions we make are fan-based, and I think it shows."

May further added that despite the date, the event being shifted from a two-day to one, the fans continue to pour in as that is their only chance to see a Cup Race up in the North East.

He highlighted how the Northeast has a combination that really appeals to fans. It’s an opportunity to watch the best 40 NASCAR drivers in the world, and events in places like New Hampshire and Northeast Pennsylvania draw strong crowds.

As noted by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, tourism plays a key role in the governor’s economic strategy. A 2024 report from the state’s Tourism Office revealed that the sector generated $76.7 billion in economic impact.

Fast forward to 2026, a report from February estimated the PA-sponsored NASCAR Cup Series to generate between $75 million and $100 million in annual economic impact for the Commonwealth.

With attendees from all 50 states and over a dozen countries, it supports the local economy, including hotels, restaurants, and other businesses.

Meanwhile, yet again, the fans were treated to a spectacular race.

Denny Hamlin Put On a Show at Pocono Raceway

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver put on a show for the NASCAR fans in attendance at the race. Hamlin won the race after overtaking Christopher Bell in the final 10 laps of the event.

He held off the Cup Series Championship leader, Tyler Reddick. The three-time Daytona 500 winner has now cut down the points gap to 19.

Not just that, but Denny Hamlin extended his record at the raceway by making it his eighth win at the Pocono track, and he also surpassed late two-time champion and his former teammate Kyle Busch for the all-time wins list with 64 wins.

What do you think about the revenue that Pocono Raceway generated? Let us know in the comments.
