The San Diego race at Naval Base Coronado will not just see the return of veteran drivers, but also teams. Henderson Motorsports is all set to make its return to the sport at the June 19 event, a year after Charlie Henderson, the longtime owner and patriarch of the team, passed away on June 14, 2025.

"ICYMI:@HendersonTrucks set for return after months away from track," reported the sports anchor for WCYB, Heather Williams, on June 10.

The team is making a comeback at the Naval Base Coronado as they seek redemption for the Daytona 500. Earlier this year, during the prestigious event, the team fielded their No 75 truck with Peter Kligerman and won the race. However, the celebrations were cut short as the truck failed the ride height check. This led to the disqualification of the win. 

This event will mark the first time the team has competed in any truck races since the Daytona 500. While talking to the media, a team executive spoke about the organization's goal for the upcoming races on their schedule. 

"We want to be competitive," he said, as shared in the clip by Williams. "We want to kind of rebuild ourselves a little bit to get back where we were, say three years ago, when everybody knew that man, when that truck shows up, we will have to beat it. You know they are not going to want to just lay over and beat themselves, so to speak."

He further added how the team wants to make sure they have everything in line to get back to being competitive. 

" When we’re there its going to be a truck that's going to be competitive, and they gonna want to cross the T’s and the I’s and do all the details that everyone else does there to win," he added. "That's what our goal is, we want to win."

The organization further revealed that they will be back later this year at North Wilkesboro Speedway, where Landon Huffman will take over the truck. The Henderson Motorsports team also plans on extending its Truck Series schedule to Bristol Motor Speedway in September and Talladega in October. 

This will mark the second major event that the team has participated in since the passing of Henderson in June at 88. The one-of-a-kind event will also see the return of a NASCAR veteran in the Truck Series. 

Brendan Gaughan to Come Out of His 13-Year Hiatus to Race at San Diego

The NASCAR veteran driver, Brendan Gaughan, will be putting on his racing gear as he prepares to step into the Truck Series one more time. He will be racing on June 19th at the Coronado Naval Base. 

During his recent appearance on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Gaughan spoke about how he decided to step into the truck one more time. 

"I could not resist it," he shared. "And when they announced this (San Diego race) last year, I called Bill McAnally up five minutes after the announcement, and I said, 'You're building me a truck no matter what. I don't care what you say.' So, I'm going to come out for one race. We're racing at Coronado Naval Base, C'mon!" 

Gaughan will be piloting the No. 20 Chevrolet Silverado for McAnally-Hilgemann Racing. It will also mark his 218th truck series start. Alongside Gaughan, Justin Marks will also be seen racing in the series for Spire Motorsports.
