Finally, Kyle Larson made history, earning his first victory of the 2026 Cup Series season as he went to victory lane in Sunday's Enjoy Illinois 300 at World Wide Technology Raceway. The driver of the No. 5 held off Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman and Team Penske driver Joey Logano to claim his seventh win of the season.
The win was Larson's 33rd career Cup Series win and first at WWT Raceway.
There were major setbacks for multiple Chase drivers during Sunday's Enjoy Illinois 300.
Ryan Blaney suffered a DNF, a 35th-place result, after experiencing a massive brake failure in the final stage of the race. The driver of the No. 12 held two stage points after finishing fourth in both stages.
Chase drivers Chase Elliott and Chase Briceoe also ran into trouble at WWT Raceway. With under 30 laps remaining, Elliott also suffered a brake failure heading into the first turn as his No. 9 Chevrolet was hit by Briscoe's No. 19 Toyota, resulting in both drivers crashing into the outside wall.
Christopher Bell, Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace also crashed with 17 laps remaining after Wallace moved three-wide underneath Bell and non-Chase driver Josh Berry. The incident also collected Reddick, who flew momentarily through the air during the wreck.
Gibbs' late-spin resulted in the new red flag of the race with 11 laps to go, collecting driver AJ Allmendinger after spinning down the backstretch after the resulting restart.
Chris Buescher also brought out the new red flag when he experienced a brake failure with under five laps remaining.
The top non-Chase driver finishing in the Enjoy Illinois 300 was Alex Bowman in second. It was Bowman's best finish since a second-place result at Echo Park Speedway in July 2025.
Connor Zilisch also recorded his second-best career finish of seventh when he earned his third top-10 finish of his Cup Series rookie season. The 19-year-old was announced as the future driver of the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in 2028 on Wednesday, with the now-retired Bowman set to leave the No. 48 after the 2027 season.
